Chapter 10

Next morning,

He felt a gentle weight sprawled across his chest.

As his eyes fluttered open, a soft light streamed through the curtains—and the sight before him stirred a flicker of joy inside his still-drowsy heart.

Kk was fast asleep on him, her cheek nestled on his chest, arms loosely wrapped around his waist, and one of her legs carelessly draped over his body like she belonged there.

A warm smile curved on his lips. He leaned in and placed a tender k!ss on her forehead, careful not to disturb the peace she brought with her presence. The moment was so serene, so pure, that he didn’t dare move. Instead, he closed his eyes again, letting sleep reclaim him while his arms instinctively tightened around her protectively.

After a while, a gentle stir broke the silence.

He felt her shift, and when he peeked through half-lidded eyes, he saw Kk blinking slowly, slowly waking up from her slumber.

She looked down at their position—and suddenly realization hit her like a bolt of lightning.

In an instant, she pushed herself away, sitting up straight with wide eyes and flushed cheeks.

Kk: "How d@re—"

But before she could finish, he interrupted, voice still husky from sleep.

Mass: "It was you who came to my side."

His calm, matter-of-fact tone struck her. Her eyes widened slightly as her mind rewound to last night. She turned to glance at the side of the bed she was supposed to sleep on… and found it empty.

Guilt crept into her expression. She realized it was her. Maybe in her sleep. Maybe subconsciously. But she’d found comfort in his w@rmth.

Avoiding his gaze, she quickly averted her eyes.

Kk: "I-I need to go to the washroom."

And without waiting for a response, she rushed off like a startled deer.

Mass chuckled softly, amused by her flustered reaction. The sound of her fleeing steps made his chest feel lighter.

Later, he headed to the office, while she stayed at home, the awkwardness of the morning still lingering like mist in the air.

In the afternoon, as always, he sent her a message.

Mass: Did you eat your lunch?

But today… something changed. Something small, but significant.

He blinked at his phone when the notification buzzed.

A reply.

Kat: "Yes, I did. And you?"

He stared at the screen, stunned.

Mass (murmuring): "She replied? Oh, fuc—am I dreaming?"

A grin spread across his face, and he quickly typed back.

Mass: "Yes, I did my lunch."

His heart beat a little faster than usual. Something about her reply felt like a quiet knock on the locked door of his heart.

At night,

She was preparing to go to bed when his voice floated in the silence, stopping her in her tracks.

Mass: "Are you free on Sunday?"

She narrowed her eyes slightly, curious.

Kk: "Why?"

Mass: "We’re all going out for dinner."

Kk: "Is something special?"

Mass: "No, no. Just a family dinner."

He kept the truth tucked safely behind his calm smile.

Kk: "Okay."

Mass: "Good night."

Kk: "Good night."

---

Next day, evening,

The family gathered in the living room after dinner. The hum of conversation floated around until Meera spoke up.

Meera: "We’re going out the day after tomorrow, right?"

Mass: "Yes, we are."

Meera turned to Kk with a playful gleam in her eyes.

Meera: "So, what’s your gift?"

Kk blinked, puzzled.

Kk: "Gift?"

Meera: "You haven’t planned anything?"

Kk: "For who?"

Jadav: "Mass’s birthday. This Sunday."

She turned her gaze to Mass, her lips parting slightly in surprise.

Samar: "You didn’t know?"

She gave a small, embarrassed nod. No one said anything for a moment.

Meera: "Well? What will you give him?"

Everyone’s eyes were on her now.

Kk looked down, b!ting her lip.

Kk: "What should I give him? He has everything... cars, properties, houses. His closet is worth more than mine. He only wears custom-tailored clothes. I… I have nothing that would be enough."

The room fell into a heavy silence. No one pushed her further. They all quietly went to their rooms.

But just before she turned, Mass whispered behind her, voice low and certain.

Mass: "WHAT YOU CAN GIVE… NO ONE ELSE CAN."

His words echoed in her heart like a gentle storm. That night, as they lay in bed, his back to her, she kept staring at the ceiling, wondering... What is it that only I can give?

---

Next day,

Jadav was at home while Mass prepared for the office.

Kk: "Jadav, I need your help."

Jadav: "Always."

She shared her plan in hushed, excited tones.

Jadav listened, then broke into a grin.

Jadav: "He’s going to l0se his mind. This is the best gift you could ever give."

Kk: "Please, do all the arrangements… but don’t tell anyone. Not even the kids."

Jadav: "You have my word."

--

At night,

They lay in bed again.

Kk, with her eyes wide open, smiled faintly to herself.

"Just one more night. Tomorrow, everything changes. My dear husband... I can’t wait to see your face."

"I promise, you won’t be able to handle the surprise."

---

Next day,

Morning passed. Afternoon dragged. Evening came.

He looked at his phone more times than he cared to admit.

Not a single "Happy Birthday."

Not a hint. Not a gesture.

Did she forget?

Did I mess up?

He reached home earlier than usual, a shadow of disappointment settling on his shoulders.

In their room, he heard the rustle of silk. Kk was getting ready.

Just as he turned to head into his wardrobe, her voice stopped him.

Kk: "Can you wear this suit? Only if you’re comfortable. If not, wear whatever you like."

He looked at the suit she held out—elegant, perfectly tailored. A rich, deep tone he knew she liked.

Mass: "Is this my gift?"

Kk: "I told you yesterday… you already have everything. Why would I gift a suit?"

Mass: "Then I’ll consider this as your gift to me."

Kk: "As you wish."

He took the suit with a small smirk and went to change.

When he came out, ready and dressed, she stopped him again.

Kk in her thoughts: You’re too impatient, Mr. Husband. Just wait a few minutes.

She gave him a mysterious smile before heading to the living room.

---

In the living room,

Meera: "You look gorgeous! It looks like your birthday, not Dad’s!"

Laughter erupted.

Kk: "Shall we go then?"

Jadav gently picked up Saumya.

They walked toward the parking lot, chatter floating in the air.

But halfway through, Kk paused.

Kk: "Wait. I want to tell you something."

She turned and stepped in front of Mass, face-to-face, eyes gleaming with something only he could understand.

Everyone around them paused—confused.

Everyone… except Jadav.

Kk: "I know it’s too late... Something happened between us in the past—and I never truly moved on from it. Yes, it was your mistake... and I made you pay for it by testing every ounce of your patience."

Her voice trembled slightly, but she stood firm in front of him, her eyes searching his soul.

Kk: "Back then, I thought if you van!shed from my life, everything would go back to normal. But now… I don’t want to er@se you. I can’t er@se you."

She took a deep breath, voice breaking with truth she could no longer hide.

Kk: "You did everything you could to win me back... and I did everything I could to keep you out. We’ve been in this fu-king tug-of-war for over a year, and—"

She closed her eyes for a moment, then opened them with a bu®ning intensity.

Kk: "I DON’T KNOW WHEN I FELL FOR YOU."

Her hands clenched at her sides.

Kk: "I tried to run from it. Ignore it. K!ll it. But no matter how hard I tried, you kept finding your way into my heart. You, MR. MASS... YOU SERIOUSLY MESSED WITH MY HEAD."

Her voice cracked as she smiled through the tears.

Kk: "The way you showed your love, your patience… the way you stood by me when I was cold and unkind—"

She ch0ked up.

Kk: "You are the best father… and now, I want to try being the partner you deserve. In the end, YOUR LOVE WON. YOU… WON ME."

She took a shaky step forward.

Kk: "So… YES, I WILL ACCEPT YOU AS MY HUSBAND."

Kk, the woman who had never bowed before anyone, never given in—not even to her emotions—dr0pped to her knees before him.

Suddenly, the lights above them flickered on, illuminating the moment.

She pulled out a small velvet box and opened it, revealing a ring that shimmered in her trembling hands.

Kk: "IF YOU DON’T MIND… WILL YOU MARRY ME AGAIN?"

A single te@r rolled down her cheek.

Kk: "I LOVE YOU, MR. HUSBAND."

Mass stood there… frozen. Lost in the storm of emotions her words created.

He didn’t move. Didn’t speak. Just stared at her—his heart pounding, mind spiraling.

She stayed on her knees, unsure, but still holding out the ring.

Kk: "If… if you don’t want me in your life, that’s okay too. I’ll take care of Saumya. You don’t need to worry about that."

Still no response.

His silence was de@fening.

Meera: "Dad… say something! I don’t like my queen kneeling for anyone!"

That voice shattered the trance Mass was stu¢k in.

He blinked. Then reality hit him h@rd.

It wasn’t a dream.

He rushed forward, grabbing Kk by her arms and pulling her up into a t!ght embr@ce.

That was the moment he had waited for—those words were the ones he dreamed of.

Mass: "I LOVE YOU TOO… MY LOVE."

He pulled back just enough to lift her by the waist and spun her in the air, laughter and relief dancing in his eyes.

Mass: "YES, I WILL MARRY YOU AGAIN."

And before she could say another word, he pu||ed her close and k!ssed her—deeply, hungr!ly. The kind of k!ss that spoke of every unspoken word between them.

It was the first k!ss on her lips since their marr!age—and she k!ssed him back just as pass!onately.

The cheers, whistles, and claps. The kids were ecstatic.

They broke the k!ss, cheeks flushed, hearts pounding, and looked around as laughter filled the air.

Jadav: "So? Do you like your birthday gift?"

Mass gently took both of Kk’s hands in his.

Mass: "I don’t have the words… Thank you, Kat. Thank you for choosing me."

He looked at Jadav, eyes still glassy with joy.

Mass: "You knew about this?"

Jadav: "Yep. She told me yesterday."

Sahil: "That’s cheating, chex! You didn’t tell us!"

Samar: "Even you, Mom?"

Kk: "I’m sorry, okay? I wanted to surprise everyone, not just him!"

Jadav: "Alright, alright. You two go for dinner. I’ll take the kids somewhere else."

Meera: "Mom and Dad… on a date?!"

Jadav: "Yes, ma’am. You heard right. A r0mantic dinner. And we’ll have our party elsewhere."

Sahil: "Enjoy!"

Mass: "You too."

---

Kk and Mass sat inside the car, still glowing from the moment.

Kk: "Let’s go to Crown Plaza."

Mass: "Honestly? I don’t want to go anywhere."

Kk: "Why not?"

Mass: "Because all I want… is to hug you, k!ss you, hold you… maybe b!te you. I just want to spend time with you."

Kk: "Patience, my husband. Another surprise is waiting. And one surprise is enough to make you go cr@zy. Two might be d@ngerous."

Mass (smirking): "Fine… let’s go."

---

They arrived at the restaurant.

But Mass didn’t unbuckle his seatbelt.

Kk: "Hey, don’t you want to go inside?"

Mass: "Nope. Not really."

Kk: "Come on, stop acting like a kid. Let’s go."

She leaned over to unlock his seatbelt—but before she could move further, he gr@bbed her wrist gently and pu||ed her towards him.

Without a word, he pressed his l!ps to hers, one hand on her wa!st, the other cradling the back of her head.

She melted into the k!ss, wrapping her @rms around his shoulders.

When they finally broke apart, bre@thless and flushed, he moved to k!ss her ne¢k and playfully tried to b!te.

She stopped him, her hand resting f!rmly on his che$t.

Kk: "You’re really going cr@zy tonight."

Mass: "You made me this way."

Kk: "Now come on… dinner first."

He k!ssed her cheek one last time, and she gently pushed him away. They stepped out of the car, smiling.

---

They sat at their table, surrounded by warm lights and the soft hum of music. The food arrived.

Kk: "Please… don’t make me regret choosing you. And I’ll do everything I can to keep us strong. No more distance. No more silence."

Mass reached for her hand across the table.

Mass: "JUST ONCE… TRUST ME. HOLD MY HAND—AND I’LL SHOW YOU WHAT FOREVER REALLY MEANS."

She smiled, eyes soft and shimmering.

---

After dinner, they returned to the car.

Kk: "Let’s go somewhere else."

Mass: "Where do you want to go?"

Kk: "A hotel or apartment. I want time. Alone. With you."

Mass: "As you command, my queen."

--

They arrived at one of Mass’s private residences.

He unlocked the door and led her inside.

Kk: "It’s beautiful."

Mass: "Not as beautiful as you."

Kk: "Where’s the balcony?"

Mass: "It’s cold outside. Why do you want to go there?"

Kk: "To take pictures with you. For social media."

Mass: "Ah. I don’t really use social media."

Kk: "Well, I do. And tonight, I want to post us."

Mass: "Fine. Let’s do it."

They went to the balcony, took a few pictures—moments frozen in smiles and love.

Mass: "Now let’s go inside. It’s freezing."

Kk: "Alright. I need to use the washroom."

Loosening the top two buttons of his crisp white shirt, he rolled his sleeves up and sat at the edge of the bed, scrolling through his phone.

When she stepped out, dressed in a su|try, silk n!ghty she had brought in her bag—he looked up.

His phone slid from his hand.

She was rad!ant. Sensu@l. Confident.

She walked toward him, stopping between his |egs. His thr0at went dry.

Kk: "So… are you mine now?"

Mass (bre@thless): "I’ve always been yours… since the day I met you."

She le@ned down, f!ngers moving toward the butt0ns of his sh!rt.

But he caught her hand.

Mass: "Kat… not tonight."

Kk (confused): "Why?"

Mass: "Kat, it’s been over 14 months. I’ve waited. I’ve never t0uched you… but tonight, if I start—I won’t be able to stop. And I’m afraid I’ll l0se c0ntrol. I don’t want to hu®t you."

Kk (fur!ous): "What the fuc—are you serious right now?! I’ve been cr@ving you since the day I saw you sh!rtless! And now you want to play n0ble?!"

---

Mass: "And I’ve cr@ved you since the moment we were married."

Kk: "Then what’s the problem now?"

Mass: "Please, Kat… it’s not about me. I’m afra!d it might hu®t you."

Kk: "I don’t care. I can take it. All I know is... I w@nt you. Right now."

She reached for the butt0ns of his sh!rt again, her f!ngers trembl!ng slightly. Her voice was f!rm, but her eyes shimmered with unspoken longing.

Hearing her, Mass stood up @bruptly, his eyes d@rkened with des!re. Without another word, he pu||ed her into him and k!ssed her like he was st@rved — like the moment might sl!p away forever. She st@ggered back under the weight of his pass!on, but he ste@died her with an @rm around her w@ist.

Her back hit the table and, without breaking the k!ss, he l!fted her and gently pl@ced her on it, stepp!ng between her l£gs and closing the d!stance between them. She re@ched up, undo!ng his sh!rt slowly, and as the fabric fell away, she smiled into his l!ps, bre@thless.

He moved to her ne¢k, tra!ling k!sses like c0nfessions, and she tilted her he@d to grant him m0re of her. Her soft m0ans were enough to dr!ve him w!ld, but he held back, s@voring every !nch of her sk!n.

Mass (with a half-smile): "You’re bre@thtaking… and d@ngerous."

He helped her down from the table and her

n!ghty sl!pped s!lently to the f|oor. She stood there, vulner@ble yet powerful — beautiful in every possible way. Mass just st@red, awe$truck.

Mass: "You have no idea how many nights I dreamt of this. Of y0u. Right here."

She cupped his face gently. “Then stop dreaming. I’m y0urs now.”

He k!ssed her again — sl0wer this time, more inten$e, full of em0tion and de$peration. He

l!fted her into his @rms, and she wr@pped herself around him n@turally. He carr!ed her to the b£d and la!d her d0wn like she was the most fr@gile, prec!ous thing he had ever he|d.

His k!sses m0ved l0wer, reve®ent and filled with l0nging. She @rched bene@th him, overwhelmed with feel!ng, d!gging her na!ls into his b@ck. He whispered a?@gainst her sk!n.

Mass: "You don’t know what it was like — watching everyone get cl0se to you while I had to pretend like I didn’t care. I wanted to s¢ream every time someone else t0uched you… when all I wanted was to h0ld you like this."

Kk (softly): "You h@ve me n0w. Stop thinking about the p@st."

She laughed gently, brushing his hair from his face. The sight of her smiling made him melt.

Mass: "You’re laughing now? After t0rturing me for over a year?"

Kk (teasing): "You t0rtured me too. Don’t act like a saint."

They both laughed, tangled in each other, the air thick with love, laughter, and des!re. But when he le@ned in again, she paused him playfully.

Kk: "You said you didn’t want to do this. So maybe I should stop too."

She pretended to get up, but he caught her h@nds and p!nned them ab0ve her he@d gently.

Mass (smiling): "Oh no, my little st0rm… now you’ve w0ken the be@st."

He k!ssed her cheek sweetly.

Mass: "You know, it k!lls me when you say you don’t want to talk to me. That pa!n… I can’t take it."

She turned to look at him. Their foreheads met, bre@ths syncing.

Mass (softly): "I love you so much, Kat. You’ve become my add!ction. I don’t want to re0over from this… ever."

She smiled, her eyes glistening, t0uched by the sincerity in his voice.

As the night unf0lded, they didn’t rush. Every k!ss, every t0uch, was a silent promise. He expl0red her with dev0tion, not lu$t — each moment a cu|mination of a thousand unspoken des!res and long-supp®essed em0tions. Their love felt r@w, pure, and completely theirs.

When exhaustion finally began to take over, she wr@pped herself ar0und him and whispered with a sleepy gr!n.

Kk: "You must’ve been such a pl@yboy back in college.

He chuckled and gently n!pped her sh0ulder.

Mass: "You should’ve been born a little earlier, then."

Kk: "I’m glad I wasn’t. I don’t want to grow old like you."

Mass (pretending to be offended): "Old? Really?"

She giggled, and he couldn’t help but smile back.

Then, without w@rning, he le@ned d0wn and ente®ed her sl0wly, w@tching her eyes w!den. She g@sped and h!t his sh0ulder gently.

Kk (half-laughing, half-m0an): "Are you trying to k!ll me?!"

Mass (k!ssed her quickly): "Never. I would never hu®t you. You're my everything."

They m0ved together like waves meet!ng the sh0re — me$y, de$perate, and utterly in$eparable.

Time melted around them. When morning light began to slip through the windows, she looked at him, bre@thless.

Kk: "Mass, it’s morning. I’m t!red… I can’t @nymore."

Mass (whispering): "You should’ve listened when I w@rned you."

She k!ssed his face — gently, sl0wly — before looking into his eyes.

Kk: "Please?"

He gr0aned, t0rn, but her eyes — her soft plea — und!d him completely.

Mass: "You know I h@te hearing you b£g. You never have to… not with me."

He pu||ed her cl0se, wr@pped them both in a bl@nket, and k!ssed her f0rehead.

Mass: "I love you."

Kk (smiling sleepily): "I love you too."

And just like that, they dr!fted off, tangled in each other’s @rms, hearts finally at peace.

To be continued....
